The trek to Kawah Ijen is a journey of about 3 kilometers, with 1.5 kilometers of it being a somewhat steep climb. Despite the incline, the path is well-marked, making it accessible for most hikers. Along the way, you’ll encounter a former volcanology viewing post, which now serves as a quaint spot to grab a drink and take in the breathtaking views.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Kawah Ijen is its active sulphur mine. As you ascend, you’ll cross paths with the local sulphur miners. Witnessing their strength and balance as they navigate the rugged terrain and carry heavy loads of sulphur is a humbling experience that adds a human element to the natural spectacle.
