Brahmavihara-Arama is Bali's largest Buddhist monastery and a living Theravada community in the hills above Banjar.
Founded in 1958, with the present complex opened in 1971, Brahmavihara-Arama remains an active place of worship and meditation rather than simply a sightseeing stop. Its gardens, prayer halls and hilltop terraces overlook North Bali, and the upper stupa is inspired by Borobudur.
Visitors are welcome daily from 6:00 to 18:00. Dress modestly, keep voices low, remove shoes where requested and avoid interrupting ceremonies or meditation. Sarongs are available at the entrance.
